Linthicum Ranch

Glenworth, Saskatchewan

Murray & Jan Linthicum and Family

Hi, my name is Murray Linthicum and along with my wife Jan, son Clayton and dad Frank we make up the Linthicum Ranch.

Linthicum Ranch was established in 1944. My Grandpa Bill, along with my dad and uncle settled here. The ranch is located 18 miles south of Glentworth, SK inside the boundaries of Canada’s only Grasslands National Park. My mom, Marjorie Linthicum was one of the best known cattle women in the country and she had an eye for quality cattle.

We are now the third generation of Linthicums raising cattle on the grasslands of southern Saskatchewan. My Grandpa raised Brahma cross cattle in the 40’s and 50’s. My Mom and Dad raised Hereford cattle as well as a few Angus cattle in the 60’s and 70’s. In the 80’s, our ranch consisted of mostly Hereford cattle.

Today our ranch is predominately Hereford and Angus cattle. These cattle are hearty cattle and can survive the cold winters and hot dry summers.

Our ranch is over 13,000 acres and is made up of mostly native prairie as well as some hay land. We farm about 1,000 acres which is used to grow feed for our cattle over the winter months.

We run about 400 mother cows and usually grass between 200-300 yearlings. We usually have to feed our cows in the winter for about 100 days. We move and check all of our cattle on horseback. We calve our cows out in April and May in large pastures away from the corral. We believe in utilizing the grass we grow as best as we can to turn forage into beef.

My wife Jan is a part time school teacher and our son Clayton is an up and coming musician, cutting his first CD at the age of 10. My dad Frank enjoys being around the ranch as well as traveling around the area to golf games, bull sales and to visit with his friends and family. Along with ranching, I also take part in rodeo and was fortunate enough to win a gold medal at the Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.

Our home is always open to visitors and we would be more than happy to have anyone stop by the ranch for a visit or a tour of the place. We take pride in raising quality beef, the natural way.
